I didn’t know anything about Linda Lovelace except that she was in the most famous porn of all time Deep Throat. I’ve never seen Deep Throat but I intend to. When I heard this movie was being made I knew it was a movie I had to see.
Sex! Drugs! Drama!
It’s a future Lifetime Movie to watch while nursing a hangover. But it’s actually even better. They’re going to be talking about this movie come Oscar time. I guarantee it.
Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace was out of this world. The best performance I’ve seen of an actress playing a real life person since Michelle Williams played Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn. For one I can’t think of a time I’ve seen Seyfried with brown hair, but she looks incredible.
Of course she’s gorgeous but they down play her looks in this role because Linda Lovelace was the girl next door. She was the freckled brunette with a knockout body hiding under her flowing hippy attire.
For real, Lovelace (born Linda Boreman) had a very strict and religious upbringing. An unrecognizable Sharon Stone plays her mother! When asked how such a nice girl could have ended up in porn she responded: I met Chuck Traynor.
Which brings me to Chuck played by Peter Sarsgaard. I don’t know much about Peter Sarsgaard as an actor, I mean, you know for sure I have seen Seyfried in Mean Girls like a million times. I can tell you Sarsgaard did an amazing job as creepy ass wipe husband Chuck. I mean, I grew to hate him.
At one point in the movie I thought Chuck was going to kill himself and I was all for it. But he ended up turning the gun on a blow up doll of Lovelace’s likeness. Crazy, right? I told you this movie won’t disappoint.
Lovelace is rated R and honestly there is more violence in this movie then there is sex or nudity, but it is a movie about pornography so don’t plan on watching with your grandpa or your ten-year-old. Or your husband if he’s anything like mine and asks you if you’d like to “act out the movie” after watching it.
An awesome surprise is Mr. Big showing up in this movie looking sexy as ever, even as a 70s porn investor. There’s a bit Prince Charming in him, too. 😉
The movie was relatively short at an hour and a half and while I prefer short movies I did think they cut a chunk out of the middle of the story. Did you know Lovelace became an advocate for women of abuse and spoke out against the pornography industry? Did you know she was in the porn industry for only 17 days?
The movie starts with a shy 21-year-old Linda Boreman right before she meets Chuck. They quickly married and suddenly Linda Lovelace is born.
The focus of the movie is the filming of Deep Throat both in seeing it the first time and then watching it again through flashbacks where we witness the drugs and violence.
Was Linda such a nice girl? She sure seems to be. And you find yourself rooting for this poor girl to get away from the evil Chuck.
And then suddenly she’s away from him. I said to my husband, Did I miss something? I feel like I missed the whole part of her getting out of the porn industry which she describes on Donahue (yeah, remember Phil Donahue?) as being extremely difficult to do. My husband said I obviously don’t get things, but I would have liked to have seen a little more of her struggle with breaking away.
I plan to purchase and read her autobiography Ordeal because after seeing this movie I simply must know more about Miss Linda Lovelace.
