Tough Year

2020 has been a tough year. I think we’re all doing the best we can. I think we’re all enduring our own struggles. And I think we’re all finding happiness when and where we can.

For me, my 41st came during Illinois’s “stay-at-home” order. I went into the day knowing it would suck. I looked at it as just another day. I chose to count my blessings. For my 40th I had a big birthday outing in Mexico planned. This year would be quite the opposite.

But, I decided to embrace it and enjoy it. And I had a couple wonderful surprises.

First: My work sent me a wonderful surprise!

I come home, maybe 5 minutes later, and there’s people in my parking lot. People I know! What in the world is going on right now?

My small but extremely special group of friends SURPRISED me! They showed up with wine, snacks, gifts, and even their own lawn chairs! We sat outside to properly “socially distance” and it truly was the greatest surprise. I’ve never felt so loved.

I do believe that because of the current world conditions my family and friends went above and beyond to make my day special. Even others – my neighbor brought over a bottle of Patron!

A great 41st!

It’s funny how as you get older the little things become such special memories. All those years I tried to make birthday plans, and yet, this year, in quarantine, I truly had the most magical and special birthday. Such a big thank you to those who made it special for me.
